PD Lurrian Protocol Droid

The Cybot Galactica PD Series was a embarrassing and costly disaster, but not because of anything Cybot did, rather due to the vagaries of the market and the capriciousness of Imperial lawmakers. Niche marketing can have a big pay off if done right, and Cybot Galactica had a ripe target, the alien Lurrians were innate geniuses at genetic manipulation and had amassed an ample treasury.
But unfortunately their frozen worlds climate was harsh on droids, and automations never really caught on as consumer production among the inhabitants. So Cybot Galactica`s engineers decided to design a new protocol droid specifically for the Lurrian market. The Lurrian`s were humanoid, so a stock protocol unit was used as a base, and the exposed wires of the 3PO unit were now tucked behind a tightly shut plasteel plating, and all the joints and seams were treated with weather-resistant industrial sealant.
The outer shock-proof casing came in three bright colors: red, yellow, and orange for better visibility against the snow. The head was designed specifically for this model, and was stylized with features more closely to the Lurrians` with wide-eyes. Also a jutting brow ridge prevented falling snow from obscuring the oversized photoreceptors. A standard AA-1 Verbobrain served as the droids intellignece bank, and with sixty percent of the language programming removed in favor of an extensive library on genetics and DNA resquencing.
The most innovative change in the PD was dictated by Lur`s steep terrrain. The Lurrians inhabit warrenlike cities that are bored into snowy ravines and glacier peaks by genetically engineered asgnat swarms. Because most of Lur`s gale-force winds can buffet repulsorlift vehicles straight into a cliff face many of the inhabitants used simple primitative hook and line. The PD`s hands were replaced with heavy servogrips that allowed the droid to cope with the terrain, also the hands can be fully detachable and can be fired with a controlled burst from rockets located iat the wrist joints.
A thin line of strong cable spooled out from a reel in each forearm and could easily pull the droid up to a new perch once the hands secure a firm hold. The Lurrian`s had expressed great interest in the PD design and thousands were produced, but only to go unsold because of Emperor Palpatine`s quarantine of the entire planet to keep the Lurrian scientists under his thumb.
Now with no market Cybot Galactica sold the units to a wholesaler at a great loss. Even though they had been highly specialized to enviormental adapations the PD was still a perfectly suitable protocol droid, particularly if there buyer had an interest in genetics. Zorneth the Ithorian, codeveloper of the mind-altering savorium herb, kept a crimson PDA6 as his personal assistant abord his herdship.
