There are many ways to communicate throughout the galaxy and its a wounder that direct communication with point-to-point messenger droids are still around. One of the remaining droids is Arakyd Industries` Seeker AS-M12 and is a fast and nearly foolproof droid.
Arakyd Industries has taken the hyperdrive space pod from their famous probots and scaled it down to a more practical size. This unit makes a one-way hyperspace jump to the location and then it lands, and discharges a small sphere that hovers above the ground on its repulsorlift units. This droid has little exterior features and tools, but it does have tools and they are tucked away untill they are needed, and its sole function is too located its target and deliver its message.
The droid is equipped with visual and audio sensors and it has the capacity to plug directly into public directories with its computer input jack, and it can also open doors and operate turbolifts with a retractable manipulator arm. When the droid finds its target and the recipient he or she must provide a verbal passcode before the droid can replay its message.
The droid then will project its visual messages through a holographic projector/recorder, and while it will deliver a voice-only messages through its vocabulator. Most of the times a new Seeker droid might run in the price range of 24,000 for a complete unit, while the Elegance message drone runs somewhere around atleast a quater of a million credits.
The Elegance is a nine-meter long behemoth that is manufactured by Industrial Automaton and are relics from a bygone era. Before the galactic HoloNet was established most goverments relied on these message drones almost totally exclusively for long-range communications, and even today some remote Imperial outposts keep them as backups in case the local communications satelites are destroyed in an attack.
The Elegance is a super fast message drone that is almost all an engine, and is capible of making one hyperspace jump before its required to stop and refuel, and the drone only has a total capablity of five jumps before its engine is destroyed by wear. When the drone arrives in its target system it broadcasts a beacon signal to attract the attention of ships or orbital stations, and since most Elegances were used to transport classified goverment or military data they all possessed fail-safe self-destruct mechanisms.
They would then self-destruct in case they were tampered with by an unauthorized being, its two electrite crystal triggers snap together, then vaporizies the drone with enough force to incinerate everything within six hundred meters
