The Roche corporation over the years have produced many superior automatons, due to the fact that the Verpines are geniuses at assembling and repairing mechanical devices. But the insects culture makes it hard for them to read the modivations of other aliens`, primarly humans.
The J9 Worker Drone was a crash-and-burn disaster for three reasons: one its personality was flat, its name was unappealing and misleading, and its buglike apperance was a turn-off to countless mammalian species throughout the galaxy. Very simply put the Verpine`s had no idea how to market a protocol droid, and buyers avoided the J9 like a deadly virus, and this caused Roche to slash prices to offset their mounting losses. When buyers did finaly buy the droids at bottom basement prices they often took the name Worker Drone literaitly and placed the droids in factories and starports where their advanced congnitive functions were wasted. Roche tried to change this by advertising the J9 to fellow arthropods such as the SicSix, and the Flakax but this really only caught onto the Xi`Dec to a limited degree.
Even though most every J9 is stuck in a labor job they are the most intellegent labor droids you`ll ever find because of their Arjan II logic computer that has a processing capacity to rival SytheTech`s AA-1 Verbobrain. This unit when combined with the TranLang II communications module that features over one million languages, makes the droid sophisticated enough to interact with organics.
The J9s are tall units that are equipped with stretched-out arms and legs, and the hips are joined by awkward joint mechanisms and are the most vulnerable feature. The units large streamlined head seems out of porportion with the rest of the body. The J9`s huge photoreceptors are key to the Verpine optical range, and much of that in the ultraviolet spectrum. The droids excellent oldfactory sensor and Torplex microwave sensor allows them to perceive details far beyond visual wavelengths.
