The Imperial City on Coruscant is a sprawling city that covers the entire planets surface, and is a miniature world within itself. There are millions of pocket ecosystems that thrive between the dense multilayered skyscrapers, and with this city in mind Cybot Galactica decided to manufacture a droid specifically for the Imperial City. It was a clever and very profitable gamble for Cybot Galactica that payed off. The Imperial City Maintenance Droid was launched into service over a century ago under the name of RC-M and the Imperial name was not applied untill the rise of Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empired. The first batch of ten thousand test units were sold to the Public Works Department of the Old Republic Goverment, and these simple automatons had many uses that include general upkeep to elementary repair.

These droids soon became a common sight on the streets and walkways of Coruscant. Before the Public Works launched each droid into service they painted there logo on the droids gray chassis and affixed a combination restraining bolt/locational transponder, which helped greatly reduced the chance that the droid would become stolen or lost. The IC-M/RC-M had many succeeding generations of its design, but all bore some sort of resemblance to the WED Treadwell.

The units had seven manipulator arms that spread out from a central pod, and each of them were tipped with a variety of sweeping, tightening, and welding tools. The droids extendible accordion joints at the base of its torso allowes the droid to reach high places. The IC-M/RC-M is equipped with a pair of wide treads that provied locomotion, while its rear storage bay holds tools, spare parts, supplementary limb attachments, and jars of cleaning fluids. The standard IC-M/RC-M is equipped with two heads, with each facing each other, one of the heads is equipped with a glowing optical sensor, and the other displays a constantly scrolling list of orders, situational data, and Imperial Building Code specs.

These droids were orginally assigned to the higher levels of the Imperial City fixing public comm-boths or prunning bushes, and as time took its toll on the droids they were reassigned to the shadowy urban underbelly where they resheathed ancient power conduits and exterminated colonies of granite slugs. About a decade after the death of Emperor Palpatine Cybot Galacitca retired the line, due to flagging goverment sales.
