One of Industrial Automatons proudest achivements is its Scanning Patrol Detail (SPD) series of high-tech security droids. This line has resulted in near-universal praise from the law-enforcement community, and in particular the W2 model which is so skilled at sniffing out sabotage devices and hidden contraband.
These droids are squat boxes that are less than a half-meter in height and they move about on tank treads. Each of these units comes armed with an extendible video sensor for telescopic and microscopic scans and is also sent with a retractable grasping appendage for operating simple controls. The droids state-of-the-art Fabritech communications/sensor array that features an olfactory, chemical, thermal, radionic, and electromagnetice receptors forms the main heart of this machines detection package.
The main drawback to all the SPDs is there lack of standard Basic-operation vocabulators, and like Industrial Automaton`s R series of Astromechs all the SPDs communicate in an electronic langauge known as Droidspeak. So when they work with a biological police officer they will require a protocol interpreter or a scomp-linked datapad translation module. The W2 or Hound as it is nicknamed is probally the most advanced of the SPDs. The droid is equipped with four extensor arms that are packed into its shell, and each one of the arms is capable of extending fifteen meters. Then at the tip of each of these limbs is a diffrent sensor module, the standard equipment includes a thermal imager, a directionalized audio receptor, a laser scan emitter, and a pulse scan emitter.
The droids internal probability projection computer helps this droid determine possible illict orgins for seemingly innocuous trace elements. IA`s Hound-W2`s are frequently seen at security checkpoints and customs desks scanning individuals and their belongings for a host of illegal items. These droids are also quite frequently used by diplomatic envoys to help bring out hidden wiretraps and surveillance devices, they are also simalarly used by underworld gangsters. The New Republic goverment keeps a stable of the Hound-W2 SPDs in the most important of its goverment buildings on Coruscant.
