The Moon Moth is the cousion of the ubiquitious moon moth and it benifits from the same technology that spawned the scarab droids.
The droid is an extreme electronic miniturization that is coupled with ultra-light weight construction, which helps to make the Moon Moth a potent tool for spies. The droids camouflage is impressive too and the fact that is also flys totally on winged power. Arakyd Industries at the start had rejected many larger less-convincing organic prototypes when they were considering the Empire`s request for a new espionage droid. When the design team finally came up with the design they went to war over the specs with the engineering team who considered it utterly unworkable.
The end result of the war between the engineers and design teams was a compromise, even though the engineers scored a moral victory. The Moon Moth has perfectly reproduced the looping, erratic flight pattern of the actual moth, and it does feel heavier when it lands on there shoulders. The droids finger-sized body contains sufficent circuitry to carry out is missions, but these missions do have to be kept simple and straightfoward to prevent overtaxing of the droids rudimentary brain.
The Moon Moth`s simpleness means it only can understand a handful of commands which includes: "pause," "launch," "return," and "acquire target." The twin antennae acts as the droids visual sensors and electronicmagnetic field receptors. When this droid is near its target it will land on it and will affix its egg which is a microscopic tracking device. The tracking device contains an encoded hyperwave signal that can be detected from parsecs away. Only to the trained eye can someone see that this imposter moon moth is synthetic. Its body is too angular, its legs contain machined hinge joints, and its antennae give off a metallic glint under certain lights. The droid is equipped with a fail safe so if it is ever discovered it just detonates a bean-sized wad of detonite that is hidden inside its abdomen. After the fall of the Galactic Empire Arakyd Industries did start selling these droids too the New Republic Intelligence agency
