LIN Demolitionmech

The LIN Demolitionmech is a droid that is one of a few capible droids to be able to lay mines and explosives but a tragedy triggered the recall of the entire line. Cybot Galactic used parts from their WED Treadwell series for the undercarriage of the LIN, and the unit was powered about by a set of two twin tank treads that were each controlled by a pair of five wheels.
The droids sensitive insides were protected by a dome of reinforced industrial durasteel, but this dome was too heavy and it curtailed the units planned five speed drive impeller. The design team considered the units slowness to be a good trade off for its defense against accidental explosions and falling debries.
The large slot in the droids front part of the dome provided a spot for the droids retractable manipulator arm. During the droids normal operation the droid would use the arm to retreve the timer mines from a spinning inernal rack and the carefully place them in the area to be blasted. The units entire dome including the manipulator arm can rotate 360 degress which allows the LIN to avoud laying charges in its path. Standard equipment on a demonlition droid is a visual sensor and an scoustic signaler capable of vocalizing droid languages only.
The droid is also equipped with a pair of broadband antennae that allow it to send a recive orders through kilometers of rock. The orginal design for the LIN was for industrial and commercial use mainly to plant explosives in collapsing or abandoned structures or to blast fresh spice tunnels. The military soon relized the droid would make a perfect and expendable mine layer, and many LIN`s were refitied to seed battlefields with preasure bombs or antirepulsorlift grenades prior to an enemy ground assault. The only complants initally was the droids susceptiobility to breakdowns in damp conditions, and since many mines are atleast partially flooded, it made Cybot Galactica`s tech team consider its a serious bug.
Before Cybots techs could fix the bug an accident on Gosfambling was broadcast of the newsnets, a detonite charge had gone off prematurely while a LIN unit was still holding it. The explosion resulted in the cave-in and the suffocation deaths of 600 miners. Cybot became terrifed of PR damage to their brand image, so the board of directors overreacted by halting the entire line of LIN`s permanetly. Cybot Galactica even ordered a recall of the existing units but most owners were quite happy with their trusty LINs.
