The engineers at Arakyd Industries seem to have a fascination with the repulsorlift engine, and this is showen with the G-2RD Guard which just like its name states what it does. The droid floats weightlessly throught the air with great manuverability and speed, and it can reach a flight celling of 100 meters. The exterior of the droids body is covered with optical sensors that allow the droid panoramic scans in low-light conditions, infrared, and ultraviolet ranges.
The units directional audio pickups aid the visual sensors, aling with a wide band antenna that transmits and recives data. The droids tiny vocabulator helps the droid deliver orders in a very distinct and a very flat tone and it is also capable of producing a shrieking alarm siren in case of a jail break. The unit is equipped with three arms that are spread equal distant apart from each other, and they extend from the droids central sphere.
The first of the arms is equipped with a stun prod that is capable of firing a short-range paralysis burst or deliver a nonlethal jolt via direct physical contact. The second of the arms is tipped with an unerring blaster cannon (and most G-2RD are permited to use deadly force when necessary). The droids thrid arm is a heavy gripper arm for unlocking cell doors and dragging away unconscious subjects. The G-2RD Guard series is a demanding and even abusive droids, but the designers at Arakyd Industries consider this to be a favorable quality for a unit that works with hardened criminals.
This design has sort of back-fired, because most of the beings that have bought the droid for industrial security or bodyguard duty and they have reported to Arakyd that they sometimes have problems of getting them to obey their orders. There also has been more than one innocent were a guest to a prison ward has had their visiting privieges revoked by an overly touchy G-2RD. This droid is not as touch as a front-line military unit but it can shake of an ion blast or a limited volley of laser fire, and also like most security droids they are uneffected by standard restraining bolts.
But there have been some freelance lawbenders that have discovered a creative end-run for this latter feature and are sometimes able to deactivate the G-2RDs with a homemade bolt and a quick release, precise strike. The Galactic Empire, the Corporate Sector, and countless planetary and local goverments use the G-2RD, and the New Republic inherited a number of the units when the captured the Imperial Palace.
