SCM-22 Stenographer Droid
< Droiden
The SCM-22 Stenographer is a little-egg shaped droid that at a first glance looks like a childs wind-up toy, but the droid is a puny powerhouse that is packed with sensitive recording equipment. The SCM-22 is manufactured by the PowerPost corporation, which is a minor office supply corporation. Due to the fact that PowerPost`s product experience is limited to mainly nonintelligent calculating machines and business datapads the company had to licence the necessary droid congnitive hardware from Industrial Automaton. Even thought the droid is manufactured by PowerPost and IA, it is the property of PowerPost and even thought the sales figures are better-than-expected they do not have any plans to produce additional types of droids. PowerPost marketed the SCM-22 to busy corporate executives who make frequent business trips, and since the human-sized personal secretaries like Serv-O-Droid`s CZ series are too bulky to bring along on passanger starliners, the SCM-22 is advertised as a perfect alternative. Only after first studies were conducted did PowerPost realize many of the SCM-22`s buyers were high-ranking military officers, who valued the droids portability and secure encryption protocols, and with this information PowerPost adjusted their advertising strategy accordingly.
Each of the droids is finshed in a glossy black paint and is equipped with two stunted wheeled legs for limited mobility. The units directionalized microphone reciver is built into the droids dorsal shell, which can record a normal speaking voice from up to fifteen meters and has a total playback capacity of over one hundred & seventy hours. Also in addition the unit can differentiate up to five simulatneous conversations, and screen out background noises and delete lengthy pauses and extraneous stretches of dead time. The droids miniature visual sensors and a high-pitched vocabulator allow the droid to interact with its owner, even though its intelligence matrix is limited, so the droid responds best to simple direct verbal commands.
The droid has a "recorder" or activate" command that causes the unit to waddle over to a convenient listening distance while the units recorder begins the dictation process. At anytime the user chooses the droid can be ordered to save its logs, compress them into a single condensed file, and scramble the document for transmission by way of an advanced encryption code, and this process takes less than five seconds. After many years of PowerPost military-oriented advertising the SCM-22 has become fairly common in officers` cabins aboard New Republic warships.
