The TT-8L (Tattletale) is a security scanning droid that is manufactured by the Serv-O-Droid company, and more than one dozen variations of the droid have been produced over the generations from the the slightly menacing Y7 to the bauble-trimmed XSS. The TT-8L line is more than an "eye on a stick" and has earned the nicknamed Tattletale. The droid remains in a fixed position throughout its operational life, this is typically someplace near a main doorway.
The unit is triggered by an approaching visitor`s footfalls which are regestered by the units audio sensors, then the unit will peer through the peephole, and it will then match the quest`s pychiscal parameters to its internal database and announces the newcomer`s arival to its master, who can then admit them or request further observation. A simple nonintellgent security holocam could easily do the same job for a lot less money, which is one reason Serv-O-Droid intially marketed the droid to weathly nobles accustomed to servants and hirelings. The elite strategy eventually reached its height durring the fabulously ornate XSS series. The TT-8L is equipped with a snakelike body stalk that is cast from antique brass, which is bolted to the floor but the droid is allowed a limited range of movement with its mulitple joints.
The blue-tinted glass optical lens functions much like a pair of microbinoculars and is protected by a bronze shutter when inactive. The units vocabulator is carefully modulated to deliver mellow and courteous diction, while the droid has a total length of 2.5 meters which is also sometimes decorated with intricate scrollwork designs, sparkling silver adornments, and inlaid synthetic gemstones. The Emperor`s personal staff obtained a large number of XSS units to be set up on the resort moon of Hesperidium.
The Y7 model was developed by Serv-O-Droid after they relized their observation machine may have potential users beyond simple nosiness. Criminals, recluses, and paranoids had great need for a device that could interrogate suspicious callers and scan them for weapons. The TT-8L/Y7 unit was designed for direct installation into a door frame or entranceway alcove.
