Recycling droids are droids that spend their entire operational life span aboard starships, and due to this many people wouldn`t know what one looks like. Most of the time these droids are aboard specilized starships that typically included research and exploration vessels. Sometimes these droids are installed aboard conventional craft as emergency backup systems, but this is rare since the cost are enormous to maintain the recycling network.
The Veril Line Systems Gyrowheel 1.42.08 Recycling Droid is a droid that moves on a single wheel that provides superior speed and maneuverability on the smooth surfaces of starship decks. The droids gyroscopic balance system keeps the droid stable on top of its single wheel drive system. The droids face is made up of a cluster of sensors, and its whiplike, multijointed metal extensors function as very flexible limbs and each of these hands supports an optical sensor and removable gripping pincers.
The droid relyes on its own intellegence system rather than the ships master computer, and its extendible antennae allows the unit to also recive orders and transmit their own positioning data. Vessels with full recycling systems will allocate most of its pantry space for technical equipment and miscellaneous cargo, and in this case full enzymatic breakdown of waste products will begin as early as the second week. During this process the droid manuvers down the ships halls finding discarded organic refuse and emptying the contents of the ships waste pipes. Then the droid brings all the material to the ships recycling chamber and dumps the waste into one of the three steaming biotic vats, and within in these vats is a bubbling enzymatic acid that breaks down the cellular nutrients into a rich organic soup. Nousable substances such as plastics, metals, and other items are ejected from a hatch in the side of each of the vats.
